 "General Printing" 2010-01-12
By C. F. Stocker
The scanner is good with plenty of adjustments. The wide choice of brightness, contrast and colour makes for a very practicle scanner.

The copier does what it says on the tin.

The inkjet printer is of a fair quality. It is quiet as the printhead sweeps from side to side. It is a practical printer. Say you wanted to place a 4" X 6" photo in the centre of an A4 sheet just start your measurements from the top left hand side of the A4 and the printer will print where you want it to. Remember it is just a domestic quality printer. The manufacturing tolerances means there may be slight errors in positioning if you are looking for a very precise location within a given area.

For every day use I can recommend this printer.

Physically easy to set up out of the box. Drivers installed okay with Windows7. Would have liked to be able to set the wireless settings via the printers built-in menu but software did a good enough job of detecting the WLAN and connecting it all together. So far no probs !!!

"Like the curates egg !" 2010-01-02
By Nick L-H (England)
This printer is great and does all it says it will. The print quality is excellent, it scans and photocopies just as it should. However it seems to spend half it's life cleaning it's print head before it does anything, EVERY time you use it. The result is that within two weeks the ink cartridges have run out! I know that there is a rumour that cartridges supplied with new printers are only half filled and I certainly hope this proves to be true, as I cannot afford a new set so often. I am not a heavy user and have got no where near the 300 or so pages mentioned. I regret giving my old Epson to me daughter now. BEWARE unless you have a free supply of ink!

"HP Printer purchased by JE of Marlborough" 2009-12-29
By J. A. Eales
Purchased Hp Photosmart All-in-one Printer Series B109a (Q8433B)

Delivery good. Printer On Line Instructions Good. Print Quality Good.

The only disappointing (and misleading feature) was that the on line manual and

printer CD rather infers that it would be possible to scan to editable text.

In reality the HP solution centre version 13 does not have this feature.

The HP Customer Care Line were, however, extremely helpful in suggesting

an external OCR package.HP Photosmart All-in-One Printer

"A Great Home Photo Printer" 2010-05-28
By John C. Lewis (Leicester, UK)
There are two sides to this review, print quality and supplied software.

Print Quality - Is amazing. The Selphy prints very quickly and efficiently and the images are stunning. You feel that because the "ink" is in a cartridge, you cannot mess it up as with some loose versions by other brands.

Supplied Software - This is where the one review star was lost. Canon have decided that we are all five years old and targeted the software as such. It is a very basic and childlike interface. There are potentially some great additions of borders and text all of which could make something very fun. However, the implementation in such a childish and restricted way means that I felt put off using it and opted for doing that work in Photoshop (as ever) and never running the Selphy software again.

Overall - You buy a printer to print and not for the software it supplies. The printer prints and it prints well. The loading of paper and ink is a doddle and you will not be disappointed by the results.

As the title says the prints are a bit dark and need lightening in editing software before printing.

Other than that a nice bit of kit at a reasonable price

"Excellent Photo Printer (if you connect via your Camera)" 2010-03-15
By Jez (UK)
I bought this photo printer because I know it has one of the best quality prints available and is only 25p per print (currently) using the large 108 print HP photo packs. It's also much quicker tham the similar design older models without a screen.

Printing from you camera using a USB to Mini USB Camera cable (NOT SUPPLIED) works amazingly well. However if you intend to use the memory card slot and view photos on screen the viewing quality is poor when compared to what you get on digital cameras these days. You can't make out the picture well enough to decide which iamge is best to print. But it's not the end of the world, features and speed acessing images on an up to date canon camera is much better.

"Handy fun pocket sized portable printer" 2010-04-24
By Patrick Smith (Scotland)
Ideal to take with you to parties, etc where you can give these fun credit card sized print stickers to your friends.

Works by Pictbridge or Bluetooth, so to print from a PC you'll need to have Bluetooth dongle, etc on your PC

Check online for phone compatability, works with my HTC Desire really well.

I would have given 5 stars if printer was available to print 6 x 4 photos & connect to PC by USB.

Some of the film packs were delivered beyond their sell by date, but a copy of a guarantee letter was enclosed, stating that they will print fine & this was indeed proved to be the case.

 "Fun product" 2010-03-23
By J. Wan
This is a fun product. It is not really a dedicated photo printer as the quality is a bit fuzzy (although that might have something to do with the resolution of the camera phone), however it is a cool little product. For the price it is good! Please note that it doesn't seem to work with iPhone's, haven't tried with the new software upgrade but I still don't think it'll work. This is the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5, although I suspect that the problem is Apple's not Polaroid. This is a great little present for people, I might buy another one!

 "Great for scrapbooks" 2010-03-04
By I. Jenkins
This is an excellent little printer for creating scrapbooks, cards etc.

Prints are self adhesive and 2"x3", the quality is very good considering the size of the unit.

Would be 5 stars if the battery was able to last more the a dozen printouts but I understand that it takes a lot of heat/enery for the zero ink to operate.

Doesn't work with the iPhone but this is an Apple issue not a Polariod one, works perfectly with a Motorola camera phone via Bluetooth.

 "Great Printer" 2010-05-20
By Mr. S. J. Morawiec (Dorset)
A great printer which interfaced with my PC with easy, Mac with a bit of difficulty and linux machine not at all: that said, getting drivers for Linux operating systems is not that easy.

In operation, the wireless link works well, albeit much more responsive from the PC than the imac, scans well and considering the wireless connection, quite quickly. Both scans and printed output are excellent. Are there any downsides? Yes there are. It does seem to gobble ink at an alarming rate, not just the cartridges which accompanied the package, but subsequent refills supplied by HP. WHy five stars then? Well most ink jets seem to use ink rapidly and perhaps it is testimony to the fact that we can print from all over the house that we are using this item more than previous wired versions.

Overall very pleased.

 "High cost of ownership" 2010-05-18
By French legal translator (Oxford, UK)
This is the perfect printer if you have money to burn. Staggeringly expensive to run. Don't be fooled by the 300 print cartridges either. They do not deliver 3 times as much printing. Get a laser printer and save a fortune.

 "Recommended without hesitation" 2010-05-09
By John Bean (Lancashire)
I read all the reviews before ordering and although I don't disbelieve the reports of installation problems I can only say that my experience was that installation was both simple and flawless. I use a mixture of Windows and Linux (Ubuntu) computers and it works absolutely perfectly withe them; I actually installed it using Ubuntu and added my Windows netbook later, both were completely without drama :-)

A hint for Windows users: there are downloads available from HP for use on netbooks or other PCs with no CD drive, and along with the full CD image there's a much smaller "drivers only" download available that works beautifully without installing all the other junk that comes on the full CD install. I recommend downloading it and using instead of the supplied CD whether or not you have a CD drive.

Summary: a well-made and attractive printer that produces nice output quickly and fairly quietly. The scanner and copy functions work well, as does the ability to print photos directly from your camera's card without using a PC at all. The card reader in the printer can also be "seen" by your PC, so you can also use it to download your images if your PC doesn't have a card reader of its own.

All in all a very good buy that I'm happy to recommend.

 "It's a magenta/red world here" 2010-05-18
By Mr. David Abbott (Nottingham UK)
Doesn't seem to matter what colour settings & adjustments are made & saved (even with magenta on -15 & yellow on +15),the wretched thing still seems to 'decide' for itself what's 'best' when it automatically defaults to that dreadful epson photo print software,y'know, the one with zero control over COLOUR balance/preferences,which means absolutely everything has a magenta/red cast, varying from slight to extreme, which in my experience is about par for the course regarding inkjet printers.

Reminds me a bit of when Fuji film & paper first made an appearance over here many years ago.....ever tried filtering out both magenta highlights AND green shadows, you ought to try it sometime.

Plain text copies done via the scanner are acceptable though,as colour balance obviously isn't critical.

"Dirty marks with the Epson PX650" 2010-05-15
By P. Colbeck (York, UK)
This was our second PX650 but did not work as well as the earlier one we bought.

Each time Photo mode was used a black mark was printed at the bottom right-hand side.

Also the newer software resulted in compatable cartridges not working.

This therefore became an expensive piece of kit when we refill once a day!

Do not buy!

It was easy to set up and having a wireless connection makes printing from a laptop a lot easier. One irritating snag is that it sometimes doesn't take paper in straight, but hopefully this just requires an adjustment.

 "Canon proves its superiority" 2010-03-25
By Mercury (Norfolk)
Took ages to set up; the inks wouuldn't calibrate properly and so printhead alignment couldn't be completed. Only printed black and yellow even though cyan & magenta were ready according to the diagnostics. Very noisy & clunky.

Sent it back & bought a Canon instead - very quick to set up, very quiet & lovely colour reproduction.

 "Overall pretty good" 2010-03-08
By Mike (Hailsham, UK)
This is a pretty good printer-scanner combination - I'd shied away from them in the past thinking that it would be a compromise of both, but actually this works very well, with good quality printing and scanning. It actually calls itself the Photosmart Plus B209a-m if that helps at all. There are only four cartridges rather than the five or six that photo printers sometimes have, but that doesn't seem to have any implications for print quality on photo paper. One point to be aware of is that the unit is a little slow to get going - it takes a couple of minutes to wake up fully and complete all the diagnostics, etc, during which time it describes itself as offline. But there again, it takes me considerably more than a couple of minutes to wake up fully most mornings so perhaps I shouldn't complain!

So why only four stars instead of five? Well, it's the installation process that loses the star. This is a wireless unit, and for some people the reason why they want a wireless printer is for the very practical reason that there isn't enough space to easily hook a printer up to a USB or Ethernet cable. But to configure this unit you have to hook it up to your computer with a USB cable (which is at least supplied). It's a great shame that it couldn't just hook up using Wi-Fi and configure itself like that.

My other gripe is that you get the usual bloatware from HP - oh for the days when all you needed was the printer drivers! Still, you can opt to not install some of the stuff. My first attempt at installing the software came to a grinding halt and just froze everything. I suspect that was because I had Norton AV running in the background. I disabled Norton and had another stab at it and it all semed to work this time. The firewall didn't seem to be a problem.

Installing the software on a second computer was much easier, and didn't involve the USB cable at all, but I disabled Norton from the outset.

HP seems to be a little coy about whether its equipment runs 100% satisfactorily in Windows 7, but this certainly does - we use the 64-bit version and it has all of the functionality we expected of it.

It's still early days for us, but everything seems to be OK. The previous printer died after about 14 months of not doing very much, so at some point during the next 12 months we will visit hp.co.uk and extend the warranty for a couple of years, which actually seems good value for money. In the meantime, if we hit any horror stories I shall be back!

"Best Printer / Scanner yet" 2010-03-07
By M. Milsom (Derby, UK)
The HP B209a Photosmart Plus prints and scans well and was very easy to set-up and the wireless connection is a real bonus. The only negative comments I have are that it does clonk and clunk a lot and generaly sound poor, and it did not tell me the ink cartidges needed changing when they were clearly nearly empty and the print quality deteriated (not enough ink left to do a head clean), however, after a quick cartidge change, (catridge change is particularly easy), the quality of the printing returned to a very good standard.
