"Eats Ink Cartridges for Breakfast" 2010-05-31
By Mr. Stuart Barlow (UK)
Eats ink cartridges faster than you can say - pricey canon ink cartridges.

I tried a couple of compatible (cheaper cartridges) and they work for about a week and then the printer says they are empty.

The Canon cartridges cost more than the printer.

Im not buying any more.

Also too large.

Also to cheap feeling.

Also will not print with just black when the colour cartridge runs out.

Also will not scan when the colour cartridge is finished.

Bye bye printer.

 "OK for the price" 2010-03-17

This is not particularly easy to use machine. It gets through ink really quickly and they're not cheap. Shop around for the best price on the larger capacity tank. The small ones are a waste of money. I've tried to switch to using black ink only. I get an annoying warning message every single time I print asking if I want to use the black ink only. Yes I do. That's why I have selected black ink only in the settings. It often seems to stop in mid print and have a little rest?

Had to fiddle around with the scanner settings before I got a result that didn't look washed out and grainy. It scans really slowly as well. It won't save settings as default so you have to remember to click your saved settings every time you scan.

I wouldn't buy one again, given the choice.

 "Rubbish." 2010-02-27

Burns through printer ink at a shocking rate. Buying new cartridges is throwing good money after bad, and I've not spent more than twice the money it cost me on Canon cartridges after a few months of light use, It can't use cheap third party replacement cartridges, If you run out of one colour it won't let you print with the other cartridge (i.e. if you run out of colour it demands you replace the colour cartridges and wont let you print in greyscale). There's no proper written documentation, so in order to decode the obscure error messages you need to open a rather tedious desktop manual.

print and scam quality os OK, but it has a tendency to mis-feed paper so you'll get slanted printouts. If it jams, more than likely you'll need to send it back to a canon service centre to get it repaired as the paper feed system is largely inaccessible.

Largely people seem happy with their purchase but I'm not. I've had it for several months and regret buying it almost every time I try and use it.

"Look elsewhere if you want a cheap printer" 2010-01-11
By Z. Anthony (Edinburgh, UK)
I was very hopeful as I'd read so many good reviews of Canon printers, but was ultimately disappointed. The printer has a cheap feel about it that even surpasses what you'd expect of something so inexpensive. I had propblems with paper jams from the start and a leaking print cartridge to boot (one of the ones that came with the printer).

I also found the limited controls and visual feedback more frustrating than I'd expected, although this isn't really a criticism of the printer itself. Most at this end of the market have a similar setup - just a few buttons and simple LED readout - which I found much harder to work with than one might expect. A blinking number on the tiny screen isn't very informative in of itself, you have to dig out the manual and look it up to see what's really going on. Something to think about when, for not that much more, you can get a printer with a small LCD screen.
