"if I could give it Less stars I would" 2010-05-02
By John Brian Judge (Tesside, UK)
While I agree that when the printer works correctly if prints very well, but that is out weighed by the amount of those tiny cartridges it consumes, the printer is constantly working through a cleaning cycle either before or after a print and as I use Canon ink we are talking over £60 for the set and I actually print very little,, if I forget to select fast print it takes 5 minutes before it prints, I have tonight had the printer go through nearly every alarm light there is and it has strangely just run out of warranty, this is the second Canon IP printer I have had that has gone defective, so my review is if you have lots of money to keep it supplied in ink go ahead, but don't expect a it to have a long life. I won't be buying another Canon product - just junk.

"Good printer, drinks ink. If you can, look for something a bit more economical or get an old i560." 2010-03-25
By will1957 (Scotland)
I have had my Pixma 4600 for a year now, and comparing it to my trusty i560, it comes out second best. The print quality is good, I like the duplex printing feature, but this printer is slow to start and print, and it goes through ink like no other printer I have owned before. It is so thirsty, I have reconnected my i560 for all my black and white printing - the only reason I do not use my i560 for all my printing is the cyan head has packed in and I cannot repair it.

My main complaint is the amount of ink this printer uses, which places additional costs on the owner. The Canon cartridges are expensive, and compatibles dearer than those I bought for the i560. If this printer were more economical, I would give it four or five stars. Sadly, I can only give it two, as it simply does not compare with my old i560, or the Canon bubblejet printer I owned before it.

Most disappointed.

"Dog Slow and Expensive to Run" 2010-01-13
By Peter Tandy
This printer takes an absolute age to fire up. I had a a 4200 before and hoped this would be better. It's worse. By the time it actually gets round to printing anything you've lost the will to live.

All Canons are expensive to run and don't in my experience work with remanufactured cartridges. Ignore the error messages telling you to replace the expensive OE ink cartridges - they're rubbish and you can continue printing for ages.

On the plus side the quality is good and the paper handling is first rate (no jams). You can get good deals too, so if you've got all the time in the world (yawn) this is an OK printer
