"12 months 4*, after that no go!" 2010-01-25

For the first 12 months it seemed to work fine and I would have given it 4 starts, the only thing letting it down was the annoying software.

By 12 months things were starting to go wrong. Needs to print a test page every time you print, not recognising paper. Stops working for no reason. Driver updates don't work...

"Maybe I've got a dud, but this is not a good printer." 2009-12-28

I should begin by saying that the quality of print on this printer is excellent - better than the Epson 1290 (which is very good indeed) when you use the special ink cartridges. It's also better than the Canon and Epson for images on ordinary paper (i.e. 90gsm photocopying paper as opposed to inkjet paper). Having said that, though, everything else is negative. It's been really heavy on ink ever since I bought it, and because it turns the paper over internal rollers it always skews the print on thick paper. Now it's taken to mis-aligning everything I print out, even on ordinary paper, so it's always too far to the right and often crooked to boot. I have contemplated throwing it out of the window on more than one occasion, and now will only use it for images on photocopying paper. Anyone know a machine that's good for that sort of work? If so you can have this HP for free.

 "Junk" 2009-12-06

I had this printer for about 13 months before it started showing an error that no print cartridges were inserted when they were. I looked up the problem on the internet and there are hundreds of people with exactly the same issue. I have tried fixing it using the directions but it hasn't worked. Considering HP have been making printers for so long you'd expect better than this.

 "Maybe it's personal!" 2009-08-17

Having read reviews with full of praise, I can only think that my experience is unusual, hence the title. My star rating is, in fact, no stars.

On my old computer, nearly two years ago, now, on XP Professional, after myriad of trouble with installation and reinstallation, the famous 'HP Solution Centre' disappeared without trace.

After exchanging emails 7 or 8 times with HP support(?) I was told my case would be referred to the Advanced Support Team(?). Despite me reminding them, I'm still waiting.

In the meantime I bought another computer, this time on Vista, plugged it in and it works fine, although virtually every week I get updates for software which don't install. I gave up contacting HP, there's no point.

I know it is cheap, supposedly, but it is not cheerful. Too many paper jams, unexplained faults, too much software cluttering my memory, conflicting error messages, non-existent support, and the ink is outrageous - nearly £20 for colour. I printed 13 or 14 A4 posters and it was gone. Cheap?

Eventually it hit my dustbin with a resounding crash - fortunately I had the presence of mind to open the window before throwing it out. Good riddance! I will never buy anything from HP again

Anyone who complains about their pc crashing or there is no return policy or the warrenty ran out after 1 month etc its a load of rubbish, by law if you buy something over the internet you have a right to return it for any reason you want, for a full refund, if your pc crashes its because your system is clogged with rubbish or user error and the minimum international warrenty length is 6 months aswell

I have had this printer for about 2 years now and had absolutely zero problems with it whatsoever

Yes the replacement cartridges can be costly, so you just go to a shop and get the existing cartridges refilled for a fraction of the cost.

Scanning quality is excellent, as is printing quality, never tried photo copy but basically, this printer works exactly as i would expect and is real value for money

I always hated hp products before because in my experience, they are badly made pieces of rubbish that when 1 thing goes wrong, the whole thing goes wrong but i have NOT had any bad experiences with this printer
