"Great when it actually works" 2009-05-14
By R. Sawhney (London, England)
Had this for a over 6 months, when it works its great but given up with it after too many problems. Firstly there is a well reported paper feed issue where it sucks in several sheets in one go. Also the head stopped recognising the colour cartridge and finally it started to leak. Its cheap but you pay for what you get.

"Worst printer I've ever had" 2008-05-14
By R. Klumb (West Yorkshire, UK)
I am joining the long list of negative reviews found not only here but also on amazon.com. This printer has caused me no end of problems specifically regarding the paper feed, but also the software (even though I managed to get it working under Vista, but again very complicated) and HP's customer service is no better. Keep your hands of this one. I am going to buy a new printer, but never again will I touch HP products.

"Nice prints but not much else" 2008-03-22
By M. Hinson
I originally bought this multi function device because we use the HP brand at work and have so far had no issues with them. Unfortunately, this is not the case with their made for home products. The HP 2575 certainly delivers when it comes to the quality of its prints, especially its photo prints. The scanner is functional but nothing to write home about. My main concerns are the awful software bundled with the printer and to the mechanics of the printer itself.

Firstly, the software contantly reports that there is a communications problem with the scanner. This happens when using either the network or local USB. The support site provides remedies such as "is the computer on and the cable plugged in" but not much else to help resolve the issue. I eventually gor round this by having to run the software in "compatability mode" Windows 2000. The printer has even worse issues. The on board paper sensor is hopeless. It will not pick up high gloss photo paper at A4 size. Postcard size photo paper...forget it. Takes it into the printer and jams each and every time. Paper jams seem to be this printers main failing along with the hopeless paper sensor. I have written to HP Support as well as emaile3d them but have had no response in the last six, yes six, weeks.

If I were to be awhether I recommend this all in opne device, it is a resounding NO. Do not waste your time or money on this piece of very expensive doorstop. Buy an Epsom or Canon instead.

"Good printer, but cheaper from ebuyer" 2007-09-04
By Technogeek (Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK)
I bought this all in one machine because

A) It is networkable (I have a Netgear wireless router that it is connected to)

B) It is Vista compatible, and

C) It was cheaper than machines with a similar spec from the competition.

Despite what other reviewers have said, it works under Windows Vista, (I know because I've tried it). The set up was straightforward, I went to the HP website and downloaded the Vista drivers as the note in the box says you should, although it would have been nice if HP had supplied a CD with them on, then followed the network setup instructions on their poster. It was a doddle.

The printer takes a little while to warm up when you first switch it on, but after that scanning, copying and printing are very simple operations. You can scan to your PC from the printer using the printer's menus so you don't have to go to the PC after changing each document. There is a little colour display that shows the menus and you can print directly from memory card (SD, MMC etc.) if you want to. It also has a USB socket on the front for directly linking a digital camera. There is quite a lot of software supplied with the printer, but I installed the minimum (driver only).

A few reviewers have mentioned problems with phantom paper jams, there is info on this on the HP website, but I myself have not had the problem despite using 4 by 6 inch photo paper, T-shirt transfers and A4 glossy paper. I haven't printed labels so can't comment on how easy it is, but if I did, I would do a test on plain paper first and adjust the document until this printed correctly before putting the label stationery in.

According to the sales info there should be some free photo paper supplied with the printer - there wasn't with mine. Printing photos sometimes gives slightly odd colours, I would guess that using the optional photo cartridge instead of the standard tri-colour ink cartridge might help this. HP ink is very expensive, and the cartridges are quite small, but you can buy compatible cartridges from other manufacturers or get refills to cut down on the cost.

On the whole I'm quite happy with the printer. I got it from Ebuyer because at the time of writing they are cheaper than Amazon.

 "Oh this is good" 2007-05-23

Worked, straight out of the box. Just like it should do. Yes there is a lot of software to install if you follow the HP installation route. But you can manually install with add printer options in Windows. Also support network printing from Linux. Like it.
